The monthly charge for INDEPENDENT
residents includes:
- Three meals a
day
- Weekly housekeeping
with linen service
- All utilities
including local phone calls
- Personal emergency
response system
- Activity programs
- Availability of
licensed nursing staff and social worker for consultation
and emergency care
- TV hookup to the
house satellite system consisting of 18 stations
- Storage locker
on the ground floor
Independent residents can arrange extra
health and housekeeping services through the HEALTH
MAINTENANCE PROGRAM. These can be set up on a temporary
or ongoing basis. If a resident requires a significant amount
of staff time they may be asked to move in to an assisted
living floor where staff provide regular needed assistance.
The ASSISTED LIVING
PROGRAM consists of similar studio apartments located
on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors where the staff are available
24 hours a day and provide daily assistance through a negotiated
service agreement with the resident and their family. Typical
services include:
- Medication Supervision
- Bathing assistance
- Personal laundry
- Dining room services
- Daily housekeeping
Fees are charged on a daily basis.

How
much does an apartment cost? How much do I pay?
An independent apartment costs anywhere from $1,830 to $3,685
per month depending upon the particular room location and
floor plan. These fees are adjusted annually generally in
accord with increases in the cost of living index. Click

All apartments are rented on a monthly basis.
Most residents at Norse Home are private
pay from investments, annuities, or insurance. Norse Home
requires a financial statement which gives a reasonable assurance
of ability to cover the monthly fees.
Norse Home requires room renovation move
in fee of $1250 at time of admission.

What
will happen if my care needs change?
If the change is temporary, extra services can be arranged
through the HEALTH MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
or a HOME HEALTH AGENCY. Some residents transfer temporarily
to the skilled nursing section of Norse Home or to another
rehabilitation facility to regain needed abilities. The resident
then moves back to their apartment and is able to function
as before.
If ongoing significant daily assistance
or supervision is needed, the staff meets with the resident
and their family to discuss their desires and needs. A move
to an assisted living floor or another facility may be recommended.

May
I cook in my apartment?
We provide three meals a day to all residents. The individual
apartments do not have cooking facilities but every floor
has a kitchenette area which includes a community refrigerator,
a microwave, and a toaster oven. Residents may purchase a
small refrigerator for their apartment.

Do
you allow pets?
No, unfortunately we are not able to accommodate pets. However,
we do allow pets to visit and have regularly scheduled pet
visitation.

Do
you have an exercise program?
Yes, through our ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT we offer an exercise
program 5 days a week and exercise equipment is available
for use anytime.

What
floor plan options are available?
We have two basic floor plans. The most common plan is a studio
apartment which includes a private bathroom and a large closet.
It also includes a storage space on our ground floor. Another
floor plan is a one-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms and
two large closets, as well as storage space on the ground
floor.

Are
there age requirements?
Yes, a resident must be at least 65 years of age.

What
is the parking situation?
We have 12 parking spaces reserved for residents in the parking
lot behind the building. The monthly charge for the space
is $15.00/month. Residents and visitors may use neighborhood
parking.

Will
I be able to have guests?
Guests of all ages are welcome for visits, meals and other
activities and events. A guest room my be reserved for overnight
stays. Reservations for guest meals are made at the Reception
desk and should be made as early as possible, particularly
at holiday times.

Do
you have an emergency response system?
Yes, every room is equipped with an emergency response system.
A pendant is available to every resident (which can be worn
on their wrist or neck). Staff in the building respond directly
to each activation.

What
housekeeping services are provided?
Residents receive housekeeping services weekly. This service
consists of a weekly change of linen, carpet vacuuming, dusting,
and bathroom cleaning. Windows and blinds are washed as needed.

What
type of security is provided?
All residents are provided with a key to their individual
apartment. At 9:00 PM every evening the front and back doors
are locked. After 9:00 PM, the night bell located at the front
entrance needs to be used and the security staff person will
allow them into the building. A security staff person does
security rounds throughout the evening.

What
if I become temporarily ill or need medical assistance?
Independent residents can arrange extra health care and housekeeping
services through the Health Maintenance
Program. These can be set up on a temporary or ongoing
basis. If a resident requires a significant amount of staff
assistance, they may be asked to move to an assisted living
floor where staff are available to provide regular assistance
when ill.
Residents may request tray
service temporarily rather than coming to the Main Dining
Room. The charge for a room tray is $3.00 per meal.

Do
residents have a voice in community policy?
Definitely. Norse Home firmly believes that residents should
play a key role in determining community policy since Norse
Home is considered their residence. We have an active Resident
Council with elected positions. They meet the first Monday
of every month as a committee along with Department Heads
and the Administrator.

Are
there laundry facilities available?
There are laundry rooms for resident's use on the 1st, 2nd,
4th, 5th, and 6th floors which include washers and dryers
as well as irons and ironing boards.

Are
utilities included in the monthly charge?
Yes, all utilities are included in the monthly charge. The
only extra charge is for long distance phone calls.

Do
you have cable television and is there an extra charge for
it?
Yes we do provide free cable via satellite which includes
20 stations.

Do
you have subsidized housing?
No, we do not have subsidized housing. Medicaid is a possibility
in our Assisted Living Program for established residents.

Can
I have my own computer?
Certainly, arrangements can be made to accommodate a computer
in your unit. We also have computers available for all residents
on the 4th floor.

Can
you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Our menus are planned to provide residents with variety and
proper diet requirements. If you are on a restricted diet,
we will strive to accommodate it. For example, some residents
require a low-salt diet or a diabetic diet. The vegetables,
meats and desserts change daily.
